There is a Depression-era house in Chicago. It is a very very fine house, at least if your interests are walking into different time periods and murdering the women you find there. Harper Curtis (Jamie Bell, Billy Elliot, Snowpiercer, Fantastic Four) thinks that’s an excellent idea until one of his victims, Kirby, escapes and starts hunting him instead.
Starring Elizabeth Moss as the main protagonist Kirby Mazrachi, Shining Girls is based off South African author Lauren Beuke’s August Derleth Award-winning 2013 sci-fi novel The Shining Girls. Also starring Phillipa Soo (Hamilton, Dopesick) and Amy Brenneman (Judging Amy, Tell Me Your Secrets), Shining Girls premiered earlier this month. There are 8 episodes, several of which were directed by Moss. The others were directed by Michelle MaLaren and Daina Reid, who’ve worked on everything.
Shining Girls looks like an intriguing twist on the familiar serial killer theme, and arrives exclusively on Apple TV+ April 29.
