Bundling Streaming Networks Gets Slightly Easier This Month

This is not going to mean much to a lot of folks but there are some of us who subscribe to all the streaming networks who find the need to switch out of one app and into another frankly annoying. “Are you sure you want to leave Hulu?” Yes, damnit! Let me out of this app so I can watch the season finale of Slow Horses on a different app! (The season finale is great, by the way).

The fewer steps, the better, which is why I am grateful that Prime Video offers several streaming networks as a subscription within its service. I am currently subscribed to Max, Paramount+, MGM+, and AMC+ within Prime Video. It’s the small things, isn’t it?

Within days, I will be able to add Apple TV+, which will be available as a subscription offering on Prime Video for the same $9.99 price that Apple charges. Will it transform our lives? It will not! But it’s one less app we have to deal with, and the “continue watching” row on Prime Video keeps all the shows we’re watching lined up when new ones are available. The neat freaks among us will enjoy the ability to organize under one roof.

It’s the cable bundle, and with Apple TV+ joining Prime Video’s ranks, that leaves Disney/Hulu, Netflix, and Peacock out in the cold. I suspect Peacock will eventually join Prime Video, while Hulu has been given an easy-to-access tab on Disney+, and Netlfix is its own thing.

But yes: If you’re wondering who is going to survive the streaming wars, Netflix, Disney, and Prime Video will be the likely winners, with all the rest merging, going under, or becoming their own little niche apps.
