Amber Ruffin has made an indelible impact on the late-night landscape. A big part of why is how unabashedly herself she is. She’s goofy, fun, joyful, passionate, and stylish as HEEEELL. Every week it’s another fly suit matched effortlessly with a sleek bolo tie. This is crazy, by the way, because up until now those were reserved exclusively for oil tycoons and chicken magnates.
We’re still waiting for new episodes of the Amber Ruffin Show but, to fill that empty void we’re all feeling, the fine folks running her YouTube channel have dropped a video showcasing her style, and it is just as wonderful as she is. It’s also a great reminder of the many memorable moments we’ve been gifted during her tenure. Who can forget when she dressed up as Sho’Nuff from Berry Gordy’s The Last Dragon?! I sure as hell can’t!
What makes this video such a cut above the rest is that it doesn’t just show off her style. That would be impossible. It’s so tied into who she is as a person and a host that you can’t showcase it without also showing off everything else! Her singing, her dancing, her comedic presence, her very essence. It’s all on display in this short video.
Amber Ruffin is someone who is so undeniably themselves at every moment that you can’t watch even a second of her perform without knowing it. There are performers out there who can work for YEARS without attaining the level of confidence in self that Amber has achieved. I can’t emphasize enough how lucky we are to see her get her chance to shine. It’s a once-in-a-generation type of ascendency and it’s only just begun.
As we all wait patiently for more Amber, let this video tide you over.
