Here are the "Ladies of 'True Detective.'" Draw Your Own Conclusions

Here is what I know of the female characters in True Detective season two, so far.

— There is Ani Bezzerides (Rachel McAdams): She likes her sex the way she likes her alcohol: Hard.

There’s Jordan Semyon (Kelly Reilly), a badly overwritten Lady MacBeth, who — based on what I’m seeing — will probably end up controlling her husband (Vince Vaughn’s Frank Semyon) with her vagina.

The other two female characters I’ve met so far are pictured here, in profile from GQ introducing “The Ladies of True Detective.”

Adria Arjona is the woman on the bottom. She plays the sexually starved girlfriend of Taylor Kitsch’s character, whose screen time from what I’ve seen so far has amounts only to begging Kitsch to fuck her and then giving him a blow job.

On the top is Levin Rambin. She plays the sister of Rachel McAdam’s character. Her character is literally a prostitute who masturbates on web cams.

For those of you hoping for a stronger female presence in the second season of True Detective, make of that what you will, although it may be worth asking yourself why the series could not land some of the women HBO reportedly wanted for the McAdams’ role, including Elisabeth Moss, Jessica Chastain, Jessica Biel, Malin Akerman, and Jamie Alexander. Could it be because they read the script? I mean, I like McAdams a lot, but when I think no-nonsense, hard-drinking female cop who is into rough sex, the actress from The Notebook is not the first person that pops into my mind.
