Those of you who have seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens may have noticed a perceptible change in mood and spirit for the typically curmudgeonly Harrison Ford. The man — who once told a director that his soul was “buried underneath a mountain of money” — has been able to add to that mountain of money with proceeds from The Force Awakens. According to Variety, he was paid more than 50 times more than his co-stars Daisy Riddley and John Boyega.
His flat-fee on the movie was somewhere between $10 and $20 million; Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher earned low seven figures; Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac received paychecks in the mid six-figure range, while Boyega and Ridley earned between $100,000 and $300,000.
That’s a paltry sum for ostensibly the two leads of the movie, but worry not. Bonuses kick in for the stars once the movie reached $1 billion at the box-office, and as Emily pointed out this morning, that’s not going to be an issue.
The reason Ford was able to command such a huge salary was, of course, because he was more integral to the Force Awakens plot than any other actor.
