During my senior year of high school, I shared a locker with my best friend, and we both agreed that we could up one decoration each. She chose a photo of Justin Timberlake (‘N Sync-era). I opted for my biggest crush of that moment: Ephram Brown from Everwood. I don’t know what it was about him that appealed to me. Maybe it was because he was a city kid who moved to the middle of nowhere, where no one understood his New York sensibilities, but I knew, if I had been there, I’D get him. The parted brown hair, the blue eyes, that same wide smile. It was weird to discover he was just a year older than me, and
The festival played old Everwood clips, and once Ephram appeared on screen, I was 17 again (not the movie)—I had all the same feelings: my heartbeat quickened, my stomach felt all funny, it was like getting a glimpse of my crush in the hallway between class periods.
Who were your television high school crushes? Do you still feel the same way about ‘em?
