Reddit Asks the Question: 'What Food Is Either Delicious Or Terrible, Depending On How It's Made?'

I've visited the US two times in my life. While both times I was struck by the diversity of food on offer--all depending on price, location, and various other factors--one of the things that stuck out to me was how there was one substance that manifested in only opposite ends of the quality spectrum: Coffee. American coffee was either atrocious, or absolutely delicious. There was never any middle ground (sorry). The curious thing was that this didn't seem to have any correlation with anything else. Neither price nor location seemed to reliably predict which it was going to be. Ninety percent of the time, it was awful. Coffee-flavoured water. But once in a while, brown gold would be found. And there'd be no way of guessing when this would happen. At least not to my untrained European eyes. Reddit had this binary nature of certain foods and drinks on its mind when it asked the question: 'They say even when pizza is bad, it's still pretty good. What food is the opposite and has the widest swing between good and bad?' You can check out the full thread here, but below are some highlights:
