Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen has resigned. The announcement was made via President Donald Trump’s Twitter account on Sunday. This marks the end of Nielsen’s terrible tenure, which included stoking racism, separating refugee families, and putting children in cages.
In the replies to her tweet about the resignation, there’s a slew of “Thank You For Your Service” tweets. But the more dominant sentiment was condemnation, criticism, and reminders that her legacy will be one of horror and shame.

You will be remembered for traumatizing countless immigrant children and for proudly lying about it. You deserve zero respect. pic.twitter.com/NSVvvSbTEh

Kirstjen Nielsen blatantly lied to the American people about the separation of children from their parents, thousands of whom remain separated and are still being held in unsafe conditions.

She went home tonight to a warm bed in a comfortable home in a safe environment.
Kirstjen Nielsen deserved to lose her job!

Anyone making her out to be a victim needs to stop. She is NO victim! She just couldn't stoop as low as Trump wanted her to when it came to immorality.
She could have resigned over 1 yr ago, but instead tore children from their moms.

while we're remembering kirstjen nielsen's lowlights, let's remember that in addition to putting children in cages, she also whitewashed nazis in charlottesville pic.twitter.com/Mj3A4NkCGL

Kirstjen Nielsen can now spend more time focusing on treating her friends and family inhumanely.

As DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen resigns—recall her history of promoting racism, xenophobia, & divisiveness

Oh, & she also led the policy of ripping thousands of migrant kids from desperate parents—where they’re now tortured, drugged, & sexually abused😓pic.twitter.com/oP4ycvXR12
.@SecNielsen at least you’re leaving with your reputation intact

Not surprised Kirstjen Nielsen resigned so abruptly. She’s always been a little cagey.

Best of luck to Kirstjen Nielsen. I’m not sure where you’ll get hired with a resume that includes “locking kids in cages.” I’m kidding, good luck at Fox News.

No one loses children with the same Fox News blondness as @SecNielsen https://t.co/HbMM5QGC42

Brian Kilmeade: "I feel bad for" Kirstjen Nielsen bc "I don't know what she could've done different" on policy, "she couldn't go out in a restaurant w/her family, she worked 50 hrs/day for the longest time, she got blasted in Congress…she took a lot of pummeling from the press" pic.twitter.com/TpZ2gYukFu

I imagine some in media—hopefully, very few—will attempt to make the argument that Kirstjen Nielsen still deserves a place in public life with its book deals and cable news panels and university fellowships.

Do not for one second accept this. Do not condone it. Remind them.
At least they have @SecNielsen's replacement lined up already. pic.twitter.com/A6DENsr2PE
