If you watched Fox News last night, you might have seen that when they weren’t harping about Hillary Rodham-Clinton for continuing to exist post-election defeat, they were repeating over and over the stupidest line in President* Donald Trump’s speech regarding his decision to pull out of the Paris Agreement: “I was elected to represent citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris.”
On its surface, this is a good speech line. It evokes the imagery of hard-working coalminers who built the Pennsylvanian city, while pushing the “America First” line that’s so popular among Trump’s base. Why should Trump care what some hippie tree-huggers in Paris have to say! AMURICA!
However, some dared to look past the surface rhetoric of this statement, and point out how it’s ultimately bullshit. And chief among them was the mayor of Pittsburgh, Bill Peduto, who took to Twitter to sound off and set the record straight on where the ‘Burgh stands on climate change and Trump.
The MAJORITY of people in EVERY state in our country support participation in Paris Agreementhttps://t.co/XnS2Hxcm8T— bill peduto (@billpeduto) June 2, 2017
Peduto retweeted this:
Pittsburgh alone has more than 13,000 clean-energy jobs https://t.co/g1TVd8wJTj— Michael Cohen (@speechboy71) June 1, 2017
And Peduto then went on television to make clear, Trump should take Pittsburgh’s name out of his puckered mouth.
