X-Men ‘97 dropped its two-episode premiere last week, and anyone who watched it will not be surprised to learn that the revival series is putting up huge numbers for Disney+. Not only is X-Men ‘97 a surprisingly badass evolution of X-Men: The Animated Series but it’s horny and corny in all the right ways. We can’t shut up about it behind the scenes, and yes, 90% of that chatter is about Gambit. The episode that was blatantly about Jan. 6 was dope, too. (Variety)

Ronna McDaniel is already out at NBC News, so great job making her a martyr on top of ruining your network’s credibility. Masterful gambit, sir. (TVLine)
Jerry Bruckheimer has decided it’s easier to reboot Pirates of the Caribbean instead of bringing back, uh, certain actors. Except you know what’s even easier? Letting the whole thing die because who is asking for more of these? Honestly. (A.V. Club)

LittlePlat’s first review for the year is of an excellent new book by Mark Lawrence. “With The Book That Wouldn’t Burn—the first book of his new trilogy—we have a love letter to stories, libraries, and nostalgia.” Which authors will you make time for even when you are very busy? (Cannonball Read 16)

Publisher’s Note: We want to acknowledge the passing of a former writer, Michael Murray, a Toronto journalist who wrote often for the site from 2009 to 2012. He was a lovely and eccentric man. The subject line in his every email was “From the Desk of Michael Murray,” and he always referred to me as Master Rowles. I could never tell if he was being serious or yanking my chain because he never broke character, either in his writing for the site or in his communications with me. The only thing that I always knew was real was Michael’s love for his wife, Rachelle, who was also a frequent character in his pieces for us. When last we spoke, eight years ago, he had been given a life-saving surgery, and his wife had given birth to their son. I hate that he is gone, but I am happy to know that he was able to spend eight more years with his wife and child than doctors had originally given him. Please read the last editorial note he wrote in his Galaxy Brain magazine. To the desk of Michael Murray, may you rest in peace, sir, and our warmest condolences to Rachelle and his son, Jones. — DR
