For years, The Batman: Part II has been surrounded by weirdness, sparking rampant theories that the film was being quietly killed to make room for James Gunn’s DCU. Obviously, those rumors proved to be false as the sequel went into production in June, boasting an A-list cast that now includes Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan. So, now, it’s time to talk about the other rumors that I’m mentioning in hopes that people approach this latest development with some sensitivity. There has long been chatter that The Batman: Part II delays were because of Matt Reeves quietly dealing with an illness, either personally or someone close to him. Those rumors seem very likely given today’s announcement that the film has “temporarily paused production” while the director attends to a “family matter.” Whatever the Reeves are going through, it’s more important than a Batman movie. I sincerely wish them the best. (Deadline)
