So this doesn’t get twisted, let me say right upfront that I’m not trying to shame Jessa Duggar Seewald for getting a medical procedure done that didn’t leave her kids without a mom. In this case, a D&C after it was determined she had a miscarriage. She made the right call and every woman should have the same access to an abortion, which is what Jenna had despite efforts by herself and PEOPLE magazine to not call it what it was. (Remarkably, Parade got it exactly right.) Unfortunately, Twitter has been on fire with right-wingers shrieking to high heaven that this wasn’t an abortion, and also, every woman in America has this option available to them if they have a miscarriage. Not so much! Thanks to anti-choice crusaders like Jenna and her family, D&Cs and D&Es are not readily available in several states thanks to overly broad anti-abortion laws. (How Jenna got one in Arkansas is a huge question mark.) Not to mention, anyone who’s had the misfortune of going to a Catholic hospital for a miscarriage can probably tell you some horror stories.
