The Pajiba 10 FYC Advent Calendar Begins with Harriet Dyer

It’s that magical time of year again in which our readers vote for the year’s ten best people based on factors like sex appeal, intelligence, acting ability, and personality, but mostly sex appeal. It will be the 17th Annual Pajiba 10, and any annual feature that has lasted 17 years in this industry is a miracle unto itself.

We’re going to do things a little differently this year, mostly by turning the Pajiba 10 into a month-long affair! Typically, in the week leading up to voting, the staff makes several suggestions in the form of For Your Consideration posts. This year, we’re doing it advent calendar style. Each day of the month leading up to Christmas, a staff member will present one of our favorite people of the year for our readers to consider and/or ogle. Voting will begin this year on Christmas Day (a Monday) and run all week. The Pajiba 10 will be presented on the last day of the year.

I have the privilege of kicking off the FYCs this year with Harriet Dyer. My affection for the Australian comedian began two years ago when she appeared as the lead in the NBC sitcom American Auto. The series, which ran for two seasons, is something akin to a workplace comedy like Superstore and The Office, but it was also a satire of corporate culture akin to Better Off Ted or 30 Rock. It was funny and sharp, and Harriet Dyer did exceptional work grounding a cast of misfits, including Ana Gasteyer, Jon Barinholtz, and an actor many now may best recognize from Welcome to Wrexham, Humphrey Ker.

My affection for Dyer, however, turned into a full-blown crush a few weeks ago when Paramount+ imported the Australian comedy Colin from Accounts, which was written by and stars Dyer, as well as her real-life husband, Patrick Brammall. The chemistry between the two leads is fantastic, but more than that, it is hysterical but relatable, unreal but also completely grounded. It’s the show that I wait to watch until I know there will be no distractions so that I can savor every minute of each 26-minute episode. I’m currently sitting on the season one finale because I don’t want it to end, although the best thing I’ve learned from perusing Dyer’s Insta is that there will be a season two.
