Yesterday was over much too quickly, which is a real bummer. Last year, I woke up the night before Thanksgiving to throw up most of a DiGiorno’s pizza I had decided to eat (never again) and spent most of the morning with a headache. This year? Your boy was up at seven to help someone blow their nose, and then pretended to sleep until eight. Then, I got up, made some coffee, popped an edible, and just had a wonderful morning watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
The family and I kept it nice and easy for the morning, enjoying a big ole bowl of fruit and relaxing in our jammies as we enjoyed the parade’s festivities. One of my favorite moments was seeing the Broadway show The Buena Vista Social Club perform a number. It’s a show I haven’t seen yet, but very much want to, because every time I see them do anything, I want to dance. It looks like a great time! All the Broadway acts were fantastic this year (Ragtime!), but Buena Vista stuck out to me.
It was also really fun seeing Sean Evans of Hot Ones fame get to be one of the hosts. At first, I thought it was a one-off moment, but he popped up quite a bit! His more monotone way of presenting felt like an odd touch to the event, but I like that he was so excited about it, and it shows off one of my favorite aspects of this show, which is that they try to appeal to everyone. Musical performers ranged from Ciara to Foreigner to Busta Rhymes. The net they cast is wide.
The Rockettes also made an appearance at the parade. They did their dancing to welcome Santa Claus, which looked fantastic, but that wasn’t their biggest moment. Earlier on, Al Roker interviewed the choreographer of the legendary group, but he would then turn his attention to a young birthday girl in the audience. He brings her out for an interview, and then surprises her with a Golden Ticket, which will get her in to see the ladies dance at Radio City Music Hall. Her response caught Roker off guard.
lmao

Now that is why streamers are fighting over the rights to live television. You can’t script stuff like that! I mean, you can, but it won’t hit the same. A young fan getting gifted with a ticket, only to nonchalantly reveal that she already did the thing the ticket is for, is pretty spectacular. It was easily my favorite moment of an already fantastic parade. I spent most of the latter half peeling a bunch of potatoes and occasionally basting a turkey in seasoned butter, but that worked out pretty great. It was a great day, and this young fan helped set the tone.
