As most of you have probably heard by now, David Del Rio — a series regular on CBS’s Matlock — was fired over an alleged sexual assault. There aren’t many details, except that Del Rio allegedly assaulted his co-star, Leah Lewis, in her trailer.
The allegations were serious enough that Lewis reported it, an internal investigation was conducted, and Del Rio was escorted off the set — all in the same day. That kind of speed is almost unheard of in Hollywood. Deadline reports that Eric Christian Olsen, an executive producer on the series, was among those who escorted Del Rio out. (Completely aside, I had no idea that Eric Christian Olsen — who played a male cheerleader in the dumb comedy Fired Up! from director Will Gluck nearly 20 years ago — is now producing television.)
All of this happened about a week ago, but it wasn’t reported until yesterday. Soon after Deadline’s report, Leah Lewis posted this to Instagram.

“Mom is here. We’re moving forward in love and strength. I’m in good hands. Thank you to everybody for any kind of support and care. Truly, we’re moving forward in strength. Key word, strength. Let that be the takeaway.”
It’s good to see that Lewis is not only getting support, but that producers on Matlock took her complaint seriously and acted swiftly in firing Del Rio. I wouldn’t expect anything less from a set led by Kathy Bates.
Del Rio is married to actress and chef Katherine Del Rio, who was quick to defend her husband’s apparent version of events. She posted (but has since deleted) a cropped image of Leah Lewis with her mom, captioned, “This is the most disturbing human being I have ever met.”
After deleting that, she posted a story to her Instagram of her with her mom, writing, “Mom is here. We’re moving forward in love and strength after what Leah did to our family. Thank you all for the love and support!”

Lewis didn’t do anything to her family. David Del Rio allegedly did that to your family.
For what it’s worth, Matlock is going on a planned hiatus (they’ve filmed episodes through midseason), and when production resumes, they’ll obviously write Del Rio out of the series.
