I haven’t thought much of the last few seasons of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. It felt like what was once one of my favorite shows of all time had devolved somewhat into an over-lit, too-HD version of itself that didn’t necessarily understand anymore what made it so groundbreaking in the first place. It’s no knock against anyone that happened mind you, as Sunny had a mind-boggling streak of quality, and nobody can stay on the tippy-top forever!
Nevertheless, it felt like a bit of a relief to watch this latest season (strange misfire of a first episode excluded), as overall it seemed like the guys behind it had rediscovered a bit of their old mojo this time. Nothing that reached the highs the show once scaled, but it definitely signaled a course correction to me. If you haven’t seen it, I strongly recommend it.
I have some more in depth thoughts I’ve been toying with that I might put down at some point, but for now I have to recommend a little bit of cinematic genius that echoes Frank Reynolds being edited into The Last Of Us: Frank Reynolds in Star Wars! Frank should really be in everything. Enjoy:
