A 'Very Famous Comedian' Was Kicked Off the Smartless Podcast

Will Arnett is still working the promotional rounds for his new movie, Is This Thing On?, so naturally, that entails going on podcasts where he talks about… his own podcast. Tinseltown, baby, ain’t it grand?

While stopping by The Romesh Ranganathan Show, Arnett opened up about the very rare times that a Smartless episode has been pulled. Most fans of the podcast know about the Matthew McConaughey episode where Jason Bateman crashed out because of technical difficulties, but apparently, the show recently booked a comedian who was booted off in the middle of recording.

Arnett described the unnamed comedian as such a “f—-ing rank a—hole” that he, Hayes, and Bateman “cut him off after 10 minutes and said, ‘thanks so much,’ and ditched him.”

Arnett told Ranganathan he’d “tell you after” who the comedian was, but humorously continued to note, “You’ll be blown away by who it is. Because you’ll be like, ‘How did you get Bill Cosby!’”

To the shock of no one, Matt Rife, Dave Chappelle, and Chevy Chase are among the top suspects. A few people have floated Tom Segura, but that doesn’t track. He fully gets the podcast game, and he’s trying to transition into acting. Pissing off Jason Bateman would not be conducive to that goal.

However, that angle presupposes that the comedian in question is a known jerk. People may be looking at this all wrong. Smartless is in the news right now thanks to Bateman grossly badgering Charli XCX about having kids. It’s not great! What if the “f—-ing rank a—hole” is actually a beloved comedian who rubbed the Smartless crew the wrong way by telling them about themselves? That’s definitely a possibility.

Or it was Matt Rife. I’d put money on Matt Rife.
