We have not seen director Lynne Ramsay in a while. Recall that in 2013, she abruptly dropped out of the Natalie Portman western, Jane Got a Gun at the last minute, which was not the first time she’d bailed on a project (she also left as original director of Lovely Bones). She returned in 2017 with Joaquin Phoenix’s You Were Never Really Here, but disappeared again for several more years only to resurface now with the trailer for Die My Love.
It’s not entirely clear what’s going on here. Robert Pattinson and Jennifer Lawrence appear to play a couple that are madly in love each other — they literally crawl around like dogs — right up until they’re no longer in love. And then they want to kill each other. Like, literally.
The logline is: In a remote forgotten rural area, a mother struggles to maintain her sanity as she battles with psychosis.
Well, that at least gives some context. And it’s described as a comedy/horror/mystery/thriller. A mishmash! Reviews have generally been positive out of the festival circuit, so far. The film also stars Nick Nolte, Sissy Spacek, and
LaKeith Stanfield. It opens in theaters in November.
