Whatever else you might say about Taika Waititi, there’s no denying the man is an A-list director. He’s got an Oscar. He makes Marvel movies. He was attached to a Star Wars project, like seemingly every other A-list filmmaker, and he’s been behind several TV series, including What We Do in the Shadows and Time Bandits.

He’s also, presumably, a very busy man. On the horizon: a film adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s Klara and the Sun (now in post-production), an adaptation of Percival Everett’s phenomenal James, and an adaptation of Alejandro Jodorowsky’s French graphic novel The Incal.

Apparently, and spoilers for The Masked Singer, he also found time to perform as the Lucky Duck on this season of The Masked Singer, where his wife, Rita Ora, happens to be a judge. His character appeared multiple times to drop clues and was unmasked in last night’s episode, replacing the expected elimination of actual contestants, much to Ora’s surprise. She claims she had no idea her husband had been participating all season long.

“I thought you were the most annoying thing on this whole show,” she told him after the reveal. “I love you so much.” Waititi explained it was easy to keep the secret because Ora was always at work when he was filming.

That’s sweet. But also—what the hell, Waititi? The show hasn’t been culturally relevant in years, and even at its peak, it was a joke. Then again, it’s not the first time Waititi has popped up on a network game show. A few years back, he and Ora were exceedingly obnoxious contestants on Jimmy Fallon’s primetime game show, That’s My Jam. It’s kind of charming, but also, completely inexplicable.
