Right around the time that Millie Bobby Brown locked down a role in a small little Netflix show called Stranger Things, the child actor tried to break into the superhero genre. Specifically, the Fox X-Men universe. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out on that front, but I hear that Stranger Things show did alright.
Anyway, like most people, Brown was devastated that she wouldn’t get a chance to work with Hugh Jackman, but even at her young age, she knew the audition wasn’t her best. Via EW:
“I screentested with Hugh Jackman when I was like, 11 or 12,” she tells her Enola Holmes 3 costar Louis Partridge, before confirming that it was for “the Wolverine movies.”When Partridge asks the Stranger Things star how she felt after leaving the room at the time, she admits that it hadn’t gone as well as she’d hoped.
“Broken,” Brown responds. “I felt like I probably didn’t get it, because I think there was someone else that was better.”
Obviously, the role in question went to fellow Brit Dafne Keen, who absolutely rocked in Logan. (Sorry, Millie.) The movie is one of the few comic book films that can safely be called a masterpiece, and I don’t know if Brown could have pulled it off. Dafne brought the goods, and might I add she did the same thing in The Acolyte. I will go to my grave saying that lightsaber fight between her and Janny Macinto is easily one of the best in the franchise.
It is wild to think that Brown was almost Eleven and Laura/X-23. Hollywood is weird like that, but again, things worked out. Brown is Netflix’s golden goose right now — Highly recommend Damsel by the way. — and, sure, the prestige from Logan would’ve been nice. However, superhero movies aren’t doing so hot right now. People have been getting real mad when they have girls in them, and also, audiences are getting kind of tired of them.
Until the new Spider-Man comes out this month and makes a bajillion dollars. Look, I’m not a psychic, OK?
