When I saw the headline this week that Tina Fey was set to host the first episode of SNL UK, I was immediately filled with dread. Don’t get me wrong, she’s an amazing get, but there’s been a lot of hand-wringing over whether this whole project will work. Tina could very easily be walking into a nightmare.
Well, color me convinced.
The first promo is out, and to the surprise of no one, Tina crushes it from start to finish. She drops in dressed as Mary Poppins, which seems a bit on the nose, but she sells the whole thing. The SNL vibes are in full force, but everyone has an accent. It’s really quite lovely, and fine, I’ll say it. We should have won the accent in the war. Yeah, sure, freedom is nice, but I want to sound fancy.
Anyway, the promo is hitting so hard that the biggest question in the YouTube comments, and the Pajiba Slack, is how can we watch in the States? Don’t punish us yanks because our president is a bloody wanker. Or because of that hack of a joke. Forget you even read that, guvna. (I’m sorry. I have a disease.)
Well, we’re in luck: episodes will stream on Peacock the next day. As for whether clips will hit YouTube, that’s up in the air, and I’m sensing the push is towards Peacock subs. I guess we’ll find out this weekend.
