Remember when Sterlin Harjo cast Ethan Hawke as Elora Danan’s dad in Reservation Dogs and we were all like, yep, these two make sense together? Sterlin Harjo remembers. He’s made Hawke the star of his upcoming FX series, The Lowdown. And it looks like a lot of fun.
The Lowdown also stars Tim Blake Nelson, Kyle MacLachlan, Keith David, and Jeanne Tripplehorn.
There seem to be a lot of as-yet uncredited cameos to look forward to when The Lowdown premieres on FX on September 23rd.
James L. Brooks has been in the business of making us laugh (sometimes while we cry) for a very long time. His upcoming movie, Ella McCay, looks entirely in line with his historic body of work, and I am OK with that. It stars Emma Mackey (Sex Education), Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Lowden (Slow Horses), Kumail Nanjiani, Ayo Edebiri, Rebecca Hall, Julie Kavner, Albert Brooks, and Woody Harrelson.
Ella McCay will open in theaters on December 12th.
I know some of y’all are beginning to build your Spooky Season (official) watchlists. So, here’s the trailer for Pig Hill. It involves pig babies and pig people. It stars Rainey Qualley (Margaret’s sister) and Shiloh Fernandez (2013’s Evil Dead). It’s directed by Kevin Lewis, who also directed Nic Cage’s Willy’s Wonderland. Pig Hill premiered last week at London’s Fright Fest. There’s no release date for it yet.
For this week’s laginappe I want to make sure we’re all aware that Werner Herzog joined Instagram recently. I think he really just wanted to let us all know about his elephant documentary:
