The trailer for Deathstalker made me question what year it is. Director Steven Kostanski (Psycho Goreman) doesn’t seem to have strayed very far from Roger Corman’s aesthetic in the 1983 original.
And the star, Swiss actor Daniel Bernhardt, bears a strong resemblance to young Arnold Schwarzenegger in some shots (on purpose, probably, right?) Yes, yes, I know Arnold wasn’t in the original, but all of those ’80s sci-fi/fantasy swords and sandals movies blend together and don’t you dare try to deny that. Bernhardt also looks familiar because he’s been knocking around Hollywood playing various thugs, soldiers, henchmen, and assassins for over a decade.
Patton Oswalt voices Doodad, and Slash has a Producer credit. That’s all I feel like I need to say about Deathstalker. If you’re not already in line to buy tickets, I don’t know what’s wrong with you.
Deathstalker opens in theaters on October 10th.
The Pajiba Staff was divided over season one of Amazon’s Fallout series. But it was the only show my kid had any interest in last year, so I’m putting it in the winner column. He hasn’t decided yet if season two looks interesting enough for him to sit still for.
Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Walton Goggins, Moises Arias, and Rachel Marsh all return when season two premieres on Prime Video on December 17th.
Dust Bunny brings Bryan Fuller and Mads Mikkelsen together again. But don’t get too excited. This movie is way more family-friendly than Hannibal. Incorporating themes from Léon: The Professional and Kill Bill, Dust Bunny allows Mads to fight monsters instead of being one.
This high-concept fantasy action also stars Sigourney Weaver, David Dastmalchian, Sheila Atim (The Woman King), and Sophie Sloan as Aurora. It opens in theaters on December 5th.
(The chicken lamp is available to buy on Amazon.)
Should I have led with the show about bread? I probably should have led with the show about bread. But now the new CNN series about bread from around the world, hosted by Tony Shalhoub, is a tasty bit of lagniappe. It premieres this weekend.
