Three Trailers: Blue Is the Moon, Red Is the Sonja, but What Color Is Brooklyn?

Richard Linklater and Ethan Hawke make wonderful movies together. They’ve teamed up again for Blue Moon, a movie that will make a lot of my musical theater nerds very happy. Rogers and Hart walked so Rogers and Hammerstein could run. But did anyone ever think about how Lorenz Hart felt about that? Linklater has.

Blue Moon also stars Margaret Qualley, Bobby Cannavale, and Andrew Scott as Richard Rodgers. I spent the entire trailer wondering if they were all standing on boxes or if Ethan was standing on his knees.

Blue Moon premieres in NYC and LA on October 17th. It opens nationwide on October 24th.

You all know romantic movies are not my jam. I might make an exception for Love, Brooklyn because of Andre Holland (Moonlight) and Nicole Beharie (Sleepy Hollow). I mean, look at them. And look at Brooklyn! I’m contractually obligated to sh*t on Brooklyn at every opportunity as a Queens Girl, but they certainly made it look good here.

Roy Wood Jr. (The Daily Show) and DeWanda Wise (She’s Gotta Have It) also star in Love, Brooklyn. It will be in theaters on September 5th.

In 1985, Brigitte Nielsen starred in Red Sonja with Arnold Schwarzenegger (who was not playing Conan the Barbarian despite looking like he was). It was a lot of fun. Later this month, Matilda Lutz and Robert Sheehan (The Umbrella Academy) will star in a new version of the movie that looks…interesting.

I’m a sucker for a good sword and sorcery movie, and I’m a big fan of Sheehan going back to his Misfits days, so I know I’m going to watch this multiple times. That doesn’t make it any good, though.

Red Sonja also stars Wallis Day (Batwoman), Martyn Ford (The Machine), Rhona Mitra (Underworld: Rise of the Lycans), and Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp).

It opens in theaters on August 15th.

I am, once again, compensating for Pajiba’s glaring lack of love of animated movies by bringing you big, animated news for this week’s lagniappe. Ne Zha 2 was such a popular Chinese anime that it’s being released in theaters in an English dub. Because please don’t ask us to read subtitles with our cartoons, I guess? I’m not about to argue with Michelle Yeoh about it.
