The ‘South Park’ Guys May Have Gotten on Kendrick Lamar’s Bad Side

Trey Parker and Matt Stone have a history of pissing people off. It’s arguably what they are best at. However, they’re usually making folks angry because they skewered them on their long-running show. Most recently, they took such sweeping shots at the President and some of his officials that the White House actually responded like a bunch of chumps. All they showed was that the show clearly got to them. But what happens when they step on the toes of someone they’re working with (albeit a bit more indirectly)?

Parker and Stone have made a movie with Kendrick Lamar, currently titled Whitney Springs. The Ankler says the comedy film “revolves around a historical slave plantation museum in the Midwest and a young Black re-enactor who lashes out at tourists and clashes with the town’s hypocritical, racist mayor, played by Parker.” It’s written by Vernon Chatman, who has an extensive career that includes working on South Park for over two decades, and is directed by Parker.

The cast is currently under wraps, but the movie reportedly started filming in October 2024, so presumably, principal photography is finished. But its initial release date was moved (from July 4th 2025 to March 20th 2026), and then the film was pulled from Paramount’s schedule altogether. Now, it would be easy to assume that the film’s release troubles are the fault of the totally normal billionaireson David Ellison. However, it sounds like the South Park guys are taking the blame.

“We take full responsibility for the schedule delay of this movie,” the creators explained to The Ankler. “We apologize to our partners at pgLang and Paramount and we appreciate their patience. South Park and life’s circumstances have gotten in the way but we still believe in the project.” You wanna blame life’s circumstances? I get it. But suggesting that a show that notoriously does not take long to produce is getting in the way is a tad silly.

Regardless of why the movie has been put on hold, it also means that several original songs by Lamar, which are featured in the film, have not seen the light of day, and that’s a damn shame. Lamar’s production company did not comment on The Ankler’s article about the situation, but hopefully this is something that hasn’t ruffled any feathers. Trey Parker and Matt Stone have been in this game a long time, but even they would not be immune to a scathing track that highlights their personal failings. Will Kendrick respond that way? Likely not. But a man can dream.
