The 31 Most Popular Netflix Original TV Series of 2024

In the last year and a half, Netflix has become very transparent about its viewership … but on a somewhat delayed basis. Twice a year, Netflix releases raw numbers for six months of programming: January to June and July to December. The spreadsheets are the corporate equivalent of a big law firm burying a smaller firm in paperwork—there are nearly 7,000 entries, just in case you ever wondered how many views 2014’s Trailer Park Boys Live at the North Pole received.

I’ve combined the numbers from both halves of the year to create a list of the 30 Most Popular Netflix Originals of 2024 (I’ve excluded kids’ programming because I don’t care). It’s worth noting that Squid Game Season 2 is ranked fifth, but that’s based on only six days of data since it premiered on December 26. It would obviously top the list if the cutoff extended beyond December 31.

As for the top 30? Not a lot of surprises. Harlan Coben’s Fool Me Once feels like the perfect No. 1 because it’s the quintessential Netflix binge-watch: both addictive and completely forgettable. Given how high 3 Body Problem landed—11th overall!—I’m surprised it took Netflix so long to renew it for two more seasons (the Benioff and Weiss series must be very expensive). I’m also surprised The Lincoln Lawyer didn’t crack the top 30—I love that show and assumed it was much more popular.

Netflix should also take note of the success of Nobody Wants This (#13): Viewers love a good rom-com series. Hell, there are four seasons of Bridgerton in the top 30—clearly, there’s an appetite for romance (and horniness). Also, true crime.
