The Latest (and Dumbest) 'Supergirl' Controversy Just Dropped

Considering Supergirl has been a prominent part of the Superman canon since 1959, I honestly can’t tell you why chuds are seething with rage over the upcoming movie starring Milly Alcock. Except, oh wait, I can. It’s because she’s not a Playboy model in a cape. (Thanks, comic books!) There’s also a sizable smattering of hate because the movie is part of James Gunn’s new DC Universe that’s paved over the funeral vibes known as the Snyderverse.

As Supergirl’s release date nears, its critics are looking for any rock to throw at it, and currently, that rock is the movie’s runtime. Supergirl will reportedly clock in at 1 hour and 48 minutes, which is freaking music to my ears after every Marvel movie started to think it was Lord of the Rings. However, angry dorks are convinced this is a sign that Warner Bros. has no confidence in the film and trimmed it to down to be as short as possible, which makes no freaking sense.

For starters, Supergirl is right smack in the middle of a perfectly normal runtime. Most movies are 90 minutes to two hours, including comic book ones! Bloated superhero films are a recent invention that, thankfully, we’re moving away from until Avengers: Doomsday takes three days to watch.

Via Collider:

In comparison, 2026’s Superman was 2 hours and 9 minutes long, and 2020’s Birds of Prey was considered a short movie at 1 hour and 49 minutes. However, a short runtime only means we’ll follow a crisp narrative with tight structure and pacing; think of successful films like the original Deadpool, which runs 1 hour and 48 minutes, and X-Men, which runs 1 hour and 44 minutes.

Second, if you hate this movie so much and aren’t going to watch it, why do you care if it’s not as long as Titanic? Are you mad that you actually want more of the mean Supergirl that rightly mocked you for being jerks online? Because it seems like its mad that you want more. I’m calling the newspaper right now and telling them to run that.

“Hello, automated voice that answers everything now? When you run your tri-weekly one page pamphlet, please note that chronic divorcee Batfleck4Jesus cried on the internet because Supergirl isn’t long enough. Him’s a wittle guy who needs more moobie.”
