The gamers within our Slack all seem to be fond of the 2015 horror video game Until Dawn and suggest that there is a lot of fun potential in the video game adaptation from director David F. Sandberg, who directed Annabelle: Creation, the very well received Shazam! movie, and the not-so-well received Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
I’ll say this much, at least: The trailer rocks. It is set in the same universe as the video game but features a new stand-alone story. While the original video game played on the butterfly effect, this is more Groundhog Day. One year after her sister Melanie mysteriously disappeared, Clover and her friends head into a remote valley to search for answers. While there, however, they are stalked and murdered, one by one, only to be forced to relive the nightmare again and again — “only each time the killer threat is different, each more terrifying than the last. Hope dwindling, the group soon realizes they have a limited number of deaths left, and the only way to escape is to survive until dawn.”
The film stars Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Ji-young Yoo, and Odessa A’zion. Peter Stormare is playing a different character than the one he played in the original game.
Until Dawn hits theaters on April 25th.
