On this week’s episode of the Touré Show podcast, the always outspoken Leslie Jones went off on an unnamed SNL director she did not enjoy working with. Not one bit. You may recall a couple of pre-tapes from 2017 featuring Leslie Jones and Kyle Mooney. One was called “Beck & Kyle,” about Beck Bennett’s jealousy over the relationship between his friend Kyle Mooney and Leslie Jones. Eventually, Colin Jost helps Beck try to break up Jones and Mooney, but it ends with Jost getting the hell beaten out of him by, among others, Tiffany Haddish and even Lorne Michaels.
As I wrote in my recap at the time, “[The pre-tape is] kind of pointless, and pretty boring, but hey! At least it’s overly long! I mean, it’s really, really long. My God, it’s so long.” As it turns out, Leslie Jones did not enjoy the experience any more than I did, as she explained on the podcast.
“The guy who would direct those was a f—king asshole,” Jones said. “And I don’t give a f—k if you see this. You still are, probably, a f—king d*ckhead. A f—king narcissistic dickhead.”
“He’s just like one of them white boys who thought he was doing f—king Shakespeare. No, this is a f—king sketch. You’re not funny, and you’re not creating anything beautiful. You’re just being an asshole. I can’t explain it. It’s like the way a person can look at you where you just know, ‘Yeah, I know you’re calling me a n———.’”
Oh, damn. And she wasn’t done. According to Jones, the director asked her, “What makes you so f—king special?”
“I know you’re not f—king talking to me,” Jones responded. “What makes me special is that the f—king sketch is about me and Kyle, not you.”
Jones did not identify the director, other than to say he was a “white boy” with a “big Adam’s apple,” but Dave McCary directed not only that short but another one Jones also described on the podcast, where she and Mooney get married. McCary is Emma Stone’s husband — they met on SNL — and also Kyle Mooney’s best friend. Mooney is my all-time least favorite cast member, so I’m not surprised his childhood friend is “a f—king narcissistic dickhead.”
That’s not true; it actually does surprise me, both because Emma Stone seems like the nicest celebrity on the planet and because as much as I dislike Mooney, he seems like a decent guy. Not that both can’t still be true and Dave McCary can still be an asshole. I mean, just look at him in the header: He looks like an asshole (am I allowed to say that under our new regime?).
