Seen here reuniting with Marisa Tomei at the UK premiere of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, a very busy Tom Holland has provided an update on his journey to one day hosting Saturday Night Live.
Earlier in the summer, he opened up to Amy Poehler that he’s turned down offers in the past for a very understandable reason: Holland has dyslexia, and one of his biggest struggles is reading out loud. If you’re familiar with SNL, the show uses cue cards, which are often changing between rehearsal and the live broadcast. That’s a nightmare situation for Holland who is terrified that he’d “freeze” on camera.
Poehler offered the Spider-Man star some heartfelt encouragement, which Seth Meyers bolstered this week when Holland dropped by Late Night. Not only did Meyers reinforce that Holland would be great at hosting, he allayed the young actor’s anxiety by introducing Holland to Wally Feresten, who handles the cue cards for both SNL and Late Night.
“He’d take good care of you,” Meyers said via EW. “If the time comes, he’s the cue card guy. Whatever you need.”
According to Holland, he was ready to make the plunge for the team, but was admittedly relieved when Sony’s marketing team told him that SNL doesn’t film during the summer. Could he still show up the season? It seems like Holland is open, and now on a first name basis with the cue card guy. Plus, Amy Poehler gave him solid advice when he visited Good Hang.
“You have to remember, there have been people that have hosted that have been fully on drugs,” Poehler said to a laughing Holland. “So I think you can do it.”
