Rachel McAdams turned 40 in 2019, and it’s possible that even the phenomenally talented McAdams fell into that weird period so many actresses land in during their 40s, between romantic leads and moms because Hollywood is the worst. Or it’s very possible that McAdams has just been very choosy — she’s only made three feature films since 2018’s outstanding Game Night, including the fantastic Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.
One of those films was Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, which was directed by Sam Raimi, who has been quiet himself since that film. But he’s back, and he’s reteaming with Rachel McAdams in an original film written by real people (Damian Shannon and Mark Swift). And it looks terrific.
McAdams plays an office worker with a terrible boss (played by Dylan O’Brien) who shits on her in the office. After their plane goes down during a business trip, however, that dynamic shifts, and that shift may or may not include Rachel McAdams with a face covered in blood in a movie described as a cross between Castaway and Misery. Yes, please.
