Paris Jackson Is Not Happy About the Michael Jackson Biopic, But Not for the Reasons You May Think

There is a Michael Jackson biopic coming to theaters in April 2026, with some serious talent attached. Antoine Fuqua is directing, and the cast includes Colman Domingo, Miles Teller, Derek Luke, and Jaafar Jackson (Michael’s nephew) as the King of Pop himself.

The film was originally scheduled to premiere last April, then this fall, but it was delayed so the filmmakers could reshoot the entire third act for legal reasons. That section had focused on the trial and aimed to refute all the allegations, with particular emphasis on the Chandler family, who settled with Michael Jackson for $23 million. Unfortunately, the filmmakers overlooked a clause in the settlement barring the Jackson family from dramatizing the Chandlers or their story. Oops.

Now, the project is back on track for release next April. Recently, Colman Domingo claimed that Paris Jackson — Michael’s daughter with Debbie Rowe — was involved in the film. Paris, however, took to Instagram (in a story that has since expired) to set the record straight. She clarified that she wasn’t truly involved: the studio had sent her the script, she sent back notes, and they ignored them. So, she decided to ignore them, too. “They’re going to make what they’re going to make.”

In the same Instagram stories, Paris said the biopic would likely be embraced by a particular “section of my dad’s fandom.” Specifically, she said the film “panders to a very specific section of my dad’s fandom that still lives in the fantasy and they’re going to be happy with it.”

In other words, she suggests the warts may be missing. Surprisingly, that’s not her preference. She compared the project to the difference between The Dirt, the raw Mötley Crüe autobiography, and its sanitized film adaptation.

“The thing about these biopics is, it’s Hollywood. It’s fantasy-land. It’s not real. But it’s sold to you as real. The narrative is being controlled. There’s a lot of inaccuracy and there’s a lot of full-blown lies. And at the end of the day, that doesn’t really fly with me. At the end of the day, I don’t like dishonesty. I spoke up. I wasn’t heard, and I f**ked off. That’s it,” she said. “Y’all are going to like the movie, so go watch it, and leave me out of it.”

She didn’t stop there: “Some things people are saying are, ‘She doesn’t like her dad. She hates him. She resents him,’ because I’m not calling the shots on a film filled with inaccuracies. That’s not my truth. That’s not my honesty. I just prefer truth over sales and monetary gain. That’s it.”

I don’t know Paris Jackson, and I’ve rarely heard her speak. This wasn’t what I expected, but I appreciate the refreshing honesty. She’s essentially saying Michael Jackson had a lot of issues — an understatement — and that the film doesn’t address them, which she’s not OK with.
