“The best revenge is living well,” I told myself as I paced around an empty apartment I once shared with an ex-girlfriend, which did not have any furniture and, at the time, was filled with cigarette smoke and half-empty bottles of Heineken. But it’s true! If someone wronged you, by, say, weaponizing the tools of the US government to get your show cancelled because you spoke truth to power, then you go out there and do that show to the best of your ability until they drag you away.
That’s what Stephen Colbert is doing. Since it was announced that his show had been cancelled (almost ten months ago now…), he has been going out with a bang. He’s still the ever-classy host he’s always been, but his criticisms of the current President (and CBS) not only didn’t let up, they arguably increased. He’s also brought on amazing guests and just let them tell stories or do monologues. He feels free. He’s living well. And now, he’s going to get a tiny bit petty.
Before his time on CBS is through, Stephen Colbert will be having a chat with former President Barack Obama. There are plenty of reasons to interview the former President, like his and Michelle Obama’s production company breaking away from Netflix. But, it will likely be a discussion about the state of politics, the world, and a certain crybaby who is currently sundowning in the White House. Remember, it was Obama telling that loser what’s what that may have gotten us into this mess in the first place (not that he would have known)!
The President’s ego is weak, but it’s next-level sad when it comes to Barack Obama. He cannot get over the fact that he will never be as good or as loved as this man. That he is a person of color surely makes it sting all the more. So, he’s removed his photo, ripped up his deals, and made the country worse off than before. So, the fact that this upcoming interview is trending and will likely give Colbert a nice ratings boost (the only thing that narcissist in DC thinks about). It’s all gravy.
I can’t say for certain that Colbert is bringing on Obama to spite the President, but it sure as hell feels like it, and I can think of few better ways. CBS has tried to deny that Colbert’s cancellation was politically motivated, but I’m gonna call malarkey on that claim. And speaking of malarkey, if Colbert is looking for another guest to rile up a certain someone, I have a pretty good idea…
