Keke Palmer and Hot Ones host Sean Evans lit the internet on fire with their palpable chemistry back in June, and the two even went out on a date. Unfortunately, we live in a world that has zero chill, so it didn’t take long for things to get very weird.

While stopping by TODAY this week, Palmer revealed that random strangers have been grilling her in public, and she does not like that. Sure, Palmer leaned into the frenzy back in June as the “couple” were clearly vibing and having fun. However, she has been upfront that she and Evans aren’t serious. At least yet anyway. Some folks did not get that memo.

“They married your girl off in two seconds!” Palmer told Jenna and Sheinelle.

In her words, fans “write the story quicker than you can live it.”

Palmer said there’s been no way to avoid the interest from the public.

“I see somebody at the airport. I’m going through TSA. They’re like, ‘So, girl, what’s going on?’” she said. “I’m like, ‘Well, girl, you gotta let time pass. This just happened yesterday.’ So it’s like this thing where, it’s so interesting. It’s so parasocial, the world we live in now.”

Not one to be a hypocrite, Palmer gets it. She’s a pop culture junkie herself and likes to scroll the internet when she wakes up in the morning. When the news about you, though, it can be strange, and she does her best to manage that. “I don’t let it define the way that I think,” she said. “If anything, I’m always trying to contextualize things. A lot times I feel like people get that about me. You can’t just take everything at face value. You have to be critically thinking about everything you see.”

That said, Palmer is not denying the connection with Evans. “Our chemistry is genuine … I couldn’t force that if I tried,” she said. “It’s life. Essentially, we met at work. We had chemistry. Work husband, work wife. You just have that chemistry with people. Then we hang out.”

There you go. There’s a juicy gossip morsel to enjoy from safely behind a screen. Going forward, I can’t believe this needs to be said: Do not walk up to strangers, celebrity or otherwise, and ask them about their love life. It’s weird. Have some manners.
