If Marvel Didn’t Want To Be Accused of Using AI It Shouldn’t Have Used AI

I have twin sons who will turn four this year. They’re growing. They’re learning. My wife and I still excuse some of their behavior because they’re lil (lovely) mushy-brained children. There are times when they know not what they do, but they are old enough that they’re starting to know better. One son in particular is not only aware of his actions but will play with his boundaries for that reason.

Just the other day, I was doing dishes when a toy Spongebob monster truck came hurtling into the kitchen. I knew exactly who had thrown it and brought it back into the living room to have a chat about it. He denied it (somewhat convincingly for an almost-four-year-old) and was annoyed that I immediately went to him instead of his brother. When I explained that I did that because he had already thrown the same monster truck into the kitchen that morning, something clicked in his head.

My very young son learned a lesson at that moment. He went back to play, and another Spongebob Monster Truck was not thrown into the kitchen. This time, it was a Mr. Krabs monster truck. Same issue, but a different tool! He even tried to say it wasn’t him because the Mr. Krabs truck was his brother’s toy. He’s learning! He was still busted, but that’s a pretty solid adjustment for such a young child. If a multi-billion dollar company were to (allegedly) make a similar mistake, I’d be flabbergasted I tells ya!

Regardless, that’s what happened. Marvel released the trailer for their big summer movie this year: The Fantastic Four: The First Steps. It looks rad as hell! I love me some Fantastic Four, and the trailer feels big and epic while also showcasing some lovely moments for the OG Thick Boi Ben Grimm. Everything was looking up for the Fantastic Family until folks got a look at the posters released along with the trailer. Marvel has been accused of using AI to generate the posters and it’s easy to see why.

The first thing I noticed is the photographer on the bottom left, who is clearly missing a finger. Several other people have four fingers, and two people have the same face. It’s sloppy at best, and now a source for Marvel has told Deadline that they did not use AI. No statement or anything. Just a quick “nah.” Guess what? No one believes that not only because it looks like some DOGE dweeb’s wet-f***ing dream but because Marvel has used AI in front of our faces already!

The intro to the oft-maligned (and mostly forgotten) Marvel miniseries Secret Invasion is AI-generated nonsense as well. We know they’ve done this! They can’t just use it for a different project and think we wouldn’t notice. The most embarrassing aspect is that were it not AI, they could easily name the f***ing artist who made it! Just name a human being! That’s all! It would be comically simple. But they haven’t and despite denying that they used AI, I doubt they will.
