Hulu Is Really Pushing Sterling K Brown and James Marsden's 'Paradise'

A new series from Hulu is premiering next week called Paradise. There’s a great cast here in Sterling K. Brown, James Marsden, Sarah Shahi, and Julianne Nicholson. It comes from Dan Fogelman, the creator/writer behind This Is Us, and also a couple of cult faves, Pitch and Galavant.

However, Paradise diverges significantly from what we have expected from Fogelman. This appears to be a conspiracy thriller involving the death of the President, a black box of some sort, and perhaps a coverup. Hulu is all in on this series because it not only debuts on the streaming platform on January 28th (as well as on Disney+ on the streaming tab), but they’re also airing the first episode on ABC on the next night and on FX three nights later.

You don’t do that unless you have a lot of confidence in the series. In fact, this is the first time that Disney has launched a Hulu streaming series at this scale. I don’t see exactly what the fuss is all about from the trailer, but I am vaguely intrigued. I’m also somewhat hopeful that it will be a show that provokes a lot of discussion.

Side note: The kid who plays the son of Sterling Brown in the trailer is Percy Daggs IV, whose dad many of us remember fondly from Veronica Mars. Paradise premieres on Hulu on January 28th.
