There will be a huge No Kings protest across the U.S. this Saturday because people are fed up with the current administration and are taking to the streets to express their frustration. It rules! The people in charge are actively trying to discredit it because they know how bad it looks that no one is afraid of them. They want fear and capitulation, and so far, that’s mostly come from other people in charge.

Watching companies like Apple, Disney, and Meta bend the knee so eagerly to authoritarians has been disheartening, to say the least. It’s difficult to imagine how we fight back when the people with more power choose not to. But we have. Real, good people have been standing up in the face of evil. There is active resistance, sometimes clad in frog costumes, that has shown that we are not afraid and that will continue.

And thank goodness, because when I saw that Secretary of War (lol) Pete Hegseth was putting out a loyalty pledge for news organizations to sign, I assumed they would. Why not? Many of the publications in question are owned or run by the President’s buddies. They’ve all lined up readily to lick his ass any chance they get. Why stop now?

“Pentagon access is a privilege, not a right,” the former FOX News host was writing on social media yesterday. “So, here is @DeptofWar press credentialing FOR DUMMIES: Press no longer roams free. Press must wear visible badge. Credentialed press no longer permitted to solicit criminal acts. DONE. Pentagon now has same rules as every U.S. military installation.”

The only one who looks like a dummy here is Hegseth, but that should not be surprising. People have pointed out that Press in the Pentagon do wear badges and don’t have access to certain rooms, but why let facts get in the way of a childish post? The man wants what he wants and expects everybody to fall in line. However, surprisingly, only one outlet has.

One America News Network (good lord) readily signed Hegseth’s blood oath or whatever it is. Every other outlet in question will not. The Atlantic, The New York Times, and The Washington Post are just a few of the outlets that have refused to sign. I’m mostly surprised by the Post, which has mostly turned into an openly conservative outlet at this point. The real surprise, however, comes from Newsmax.

“Newsmax has no plans to sign the letter,” a spokesperson for the company said yesterday. “We are working in conjunction with other media outlets to resolve the situation. We believe the requirements are unnecessary and onerous and hope that the Pentagon will review the matter further.” That’s significant. If you head to Newsmax’s homepage, it’s nothing but love for the current President. Their decision not to kowtow to one of the man’s subordinates is a huge deal.

I can’t help but wonder if the rancid public opinion toward the current administration has pushed the outlets to finally take a stand. There’s still a lot of work to be done, but maybe seeing that most human beings aren’t okay with their military being deployed against them has helped a few people grow a spine. The deadline to sign Hegseth’s Pentagon press policy is today. I’m sure he’ll handle the failure very well.
