With Poker Face Season 2 now streaming on Peacock, Natasha Lyonne is working the promotion rounds, which has already seen her make a very unfortunate announcement about a new AI film. People did not like that.
This time around, the topic of American Pie came up. Those films introduced Lyonne to mainstream audiences, and she seems not to remember being in them or who her co-stars were. Had she made only one, that’d be understandable because it’s been over 25 years since the first film. But Lyonne starred in three of these things: American Pie, American Pie 2, and American Pie: Reunion in 2012. Despite all of that, she still can’t tell you if John Cho was in them or what they’re even about. A love story set in a bakery? Let’s go with that.
Anyway, Cho guest stars in this season of Poker Face, and Lyonne couldn’t remember if she worked with him before while talking to Deadline:
“I think that he’s maybe in some of the American Pies,” she said. “I’ll be honest, I haven’t seen those. I did see the first one at the premiere. I do love Chris and Paul Weitz. I do talk a lot of sh** about that movie, it’s mostly just because I don’t understand high school or proms or suburbia.”
OK, I don’t star in Hollywood movies, so maybe it’s easy to forget co-stars. It’s not like the two of them ran into each other and shouted “American Pie” at each other for years on end.
“Whenever I see John around town or something, we’re always like, ‘American Pie!’” Lyonne told Deadline. “And then, when he got to [the Poker Face] set, we were like, ‘American Pie!’ But I was sort of playing along, if I’m honest, because I was just like, we’ve been doing that bit for over a decade, and so I kind of had to commit to the bit. He is in the movies, right?”
Giancarlo Esposito is in Poker Face Season 2. If he started yelling “The Mandalorian” at Natasha Lyonne, would she just go along? Because I think we can convince her she plays Baby Yoda. I have a really good feeling about this one.
