Without getting mired in the obscene decadence of Taylor Swift’s wedding, there’s no denying it was a massive celebrity event. Pro athletes mixed with Hollywood elites, and from what I hear, Tom Cruise was walking around complimenting hats. People are literally getting mad in public that they weren’t invited, which makes Charles Barkley’s take on the nuptials all the more hilarious.
The former MVP actually was on the guest list, but he took a hard pass on the whole thing. Sir Charles is all about his tee time, and he doesn’t care who you are, his weekend is his weekend. Also, weddings are the worst, and it’s about time someone said it.
Via EW:
“I don’t go to weddings and funerals,” Barkley said on Tuesday’s Unfiltered With Ricky Bo & Bill Colarulo. “I did get an invite, and I did politely declined. Because I thought it was gonna be a crap show.”Barkley added that he loves Kelce and his brother Jason, and that he’s met Swift once. But Barkley’s offseason priorities didn’t line up with the Friday festivities at Madison Square Garden.
“That’s just too much,” he said. “I just wanna hang out and play golf, and I don’t wanna dress up and all that other stuff. But I appreciate the invitation; it was pretty special.”
NBA legends, they’re just like us. Seriously, I have never felt more seen than Charles Barkley turning down an invite because he’d have to get dressed and also it sounds super annoying. We might actually be twins. Should I try out for the Suns?
Of course, there is another factor to consider. As much as I love that Chuck can’t even be bothered by funerals let alone the celebrity event of the decade, there’s probably a way more likely reason for his absence: Cardi B wasn’t invited.
