Celebrity Break-Ups: Quinta Brunson, Laura Prepon, Ben Foster, and Sia

Abbott Elementary creator, writer, and star Quinta Brunson has filed for divorce from her husband of three years, Kevin Jay Anik. She cited irreconcilable differences and noted in the filing that the couple have entered into a postnuptial agreement, which suggests the divorce will be quick and clean — legally speaking. The two had a very private marriage, and I hope they’re able to maintain that same level of privacy in their divorce. Breakups are hard, even in relatively brief marriages.

There’s little known about Kevin Jay Anik, but I like to think he inspired Zack Fox’s character, Tariq, in Abbott—in all the best ways — that he’s a fun-natured goofball, but ultimately, it just didn’t work out because they were leading separate lives. And also maybe Brunson is in love with Tyler James Williams.

Brunson’s marriage did last a year longer than that of Sia and her second husband, Daniel Bernad, with whom Sia had a child (her third) eleven months ago. I mention that mostly because the workplace Slack got hung up on the baby’s name: Somersault Wonder Bernad (I’m just glad his last name wasn’t Bread). Not much is known about Bernad, other than that he’s the CEO and co-founder of an integrative medicine practice called Modern Medicine Service, which focuses on acupuncture and holistic treatment. That sounds like someone Sia would marry and have a child named Somersault Wonder with.

Finally, Laura Prepon (Orange Is the New Black) and Ben Foster are also going through a divorce, and unfortunately, that one is getting messy. Honestly, I didn’t even know they were married. Foster filed last November, six years after the two wed. They have two children together and based on the custody filings it appears there are issues. The former Scientologist is accusing Foster of having a drinking problem, while Foster has accused Prepon of “inappropriate marital conduct,” a catchall phrase that can include infidelity or emotional abuse.

Prepon, in fact, has accused Foster of a long history of alcohol abuse, dating back to at least one incident in 2017 when she found him in his underwear outside their residence after he got so inebriated that he locked himself out. Foster has denied the allegations.
