There’s some very upsetting news today as the world is learning that Michelle Trachtenberg has passed away. She was 39. According to the New York Post, she was found in an apartment complex in New York City. No foul play is suspected.
Trachtenberg gained early recognition as the star of Harriet the Spy and later became widely known for playing Dawn Summers, Buffy’s younger sister, on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She also had notable roles in EuroTrip, Ice Princess, and Gossip Girl, where she played the scheming Georgina Sparks. She reprised that role in the revival in two episodes in 2022-23. However, besides that, she hasn’t appeared onscreen since a 2016 TV movie.
According to ABC News, Trachtenberg recently underwent a liver transplant. She may have been experiencing complications.
She had a successful career that she unfortunately could not sustain, as is too often the case with former child actors. We hope that she will be best remembered for the roles for which she was best known. May her memory be a blessing.
