You know what plays incredibly well on Netflix? Gerard Butler movies, and Mark Wahlberg movies. Movies like Den of Thieves and Four Brothers. Gangs. Crooked cops. Action. The Accountant movies do well, too. And in The Rip, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon — teaming up to play dirty cops trying to lift a stolen $20 million haul — fully embrace the Gerard Butler genre or what TBS used to term, “Movies for Dads who Like Movies.”

If anyone still actually watched basic cable movies, The Rip would run nonstop for a decade. And hell, it’s not just Affleck and Damon, there’s Kyle Chandler and Steven Yeun, too, because Affleck and Damon know how to package a movie. Add to that director Joe Carnahan (Smokin’ Aces) and you’ve got yourself an instant Netflix classic, by which I mean a mediocre action movie elevated by a strong cast.

Check out the trailer.

The Rip hits Netflix on January 16th.
