I started reading the first in Martha Wells’ sci-fi comedy novella series Murderbot just this week, largely because of the enthusiasm so many staff members have for it. The series is about a self-hacking security construct that is horrified by human emotion yet drawn to its vulnerable clients. The robot also binge-watches a lot of television, which appears to be a running storyline and, in the series, an opportunity for Alexander Skarsgård to bring in his best friend, Jack McBrayer.
The series comes from Chris and Paul Weitz, who will always be the directors of About a Boy to me, even if Paul Weitz did go on to disgrace himself with Little Fockers. The series also stars Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, Sabrina Wu, Akshay Khanna, Tattiawna Jones, and Tamara Podemski. It premieres on Apple TV+ on May 16th.
Watch the very fun trailer.
