AI is going to cost the world a lot of jobs (at least in the short term), evidenced by the 14,000 white collar jobs that were lost this week just at Amazon (although, Amazon may realize as so many others have that they’re going to have to hire a lot of them back because AI is not a particularly trustworthy or competent employee). There’s a lot of fear in Hollywood, too, that AI may replace a lot of their jobs.
But writers, at least in the short term, shouldn’t be too worried about being replaced. Not if this AI-created Friends knock-off is any indication. An AI enthusiast reposted this video and claimed that “Sitcoms will never be the same,” although it’s not clear to me if he actually watched it. It is not only terrible, but it’s creepy as hell — like a Pineapple head fever dream of Friends in the mind of a very unwell person.
This, folks, is where you point and laugh. It’s OK. It won’t hurt the robot’s feelings.
Sitcoms will never be the same.

Why do all the characters look exactly like each other? Does AI have white person face blindness?
