About that 'True Detective' Season 5 Bingo Card

There are a lot of actors I could have imagined signing up for a fifth season of True Detective. I mean, the show is practically a guaranteed Emmy nomination for its lead, and the fifth season is smartly bringing back Issa Lopez, who delivered Jodie Foster an Emmy win, as writer-showrunner.

But I never imagined Nicolas Cage, who is reportedly in talks to star in the next season. It would be his second television series ever, after the forthcoming Spider-Noir for Prime Video. Cage would star as Detective Henry Logan in the New York set fifth season. Cage is still mulling over the offer, apparently, while filming is expected to take place in 2026 for a 2027 release.

According to Lopez, the events in New York will also somehow connect to those in Ennis, Alaska, the setting for the fourth season, Night Country. Cage would certainly bring in a lot of curious viewers and the role would be the biggest in the last 15 years of Cage’s career, Longlegs notwithstanding.
