What's Streaming This Month? Holidays, Horror... And In Some Cases A Bit Of Both!

This is it, folks — December is just around the corner, like a fat man looking for the nearest chimney to illegally enter. And that means it’s time to look with giddy anticipation at all the shiny new toys… uh, television… no wait, CONTENT that’s coming to your streaming platforms next month!

As we’ve already covered, Hulu’s got Marvel’s Runaways returning for its second season on December 21, so we can all binge on teen angst with our eggnog. Nothing says family-time better than a show where parents are secretly part of an evil, apocalyptic cabal!

Meanwhile, Amazon Prime is launching the second season of the breakout darling The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on December 5, so we can all escape to a colorful, fictional past, where women struggled to prove they’re just as funny as men. Phew — glad that’s only fictional, and not at all like our present reality!

Netflix, as usual, is just backing a truckload of originals and other content right up to your door and dumping it there for you to sift through. Which is why I’ve gone ahead and done some pre-sifting!

The “I’m Sure Every Bunny Will Survive, Right?” Show: Watership Down Limited Series (12/23)
Netflix teamed up with the BBC on this new adaptation of the classic Richard Adams novel, and the voice cast is stacked with favorites, including John Boyega, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Ben Kingsley, Gemma Arterton, Peter Capaldi, Daniel Kaluuya, Taron Egerton, and Olivia Colman. PLAYING BUNNIES. What could go wrong?

The Movies We’ve Been Waiting For: Alfonso Cuarón’s ROMA (12/14), Dumplin’ starring Jennifer Aniston and Danielle Macdonald (12/7), and Bird Box starring Sandra Bullock and Sarah Paulson (12/21). A little artful, a little touching, and a little downright eerie — something for every mood!

The “Did You Know About This?!” Cartoon: 3Below: Tales of Arcadia (12/21)
Ok, get this. This show is created by Guillermo del Toro, has a voice cast that includes Uzo Aduba, Hayley Atwell, Glenn Close, Tatiana Maslany, Diego Luna, Ann Dowd, Nick Frost, and Andy frickin’ Garcia, and the trailer looks like Tron-In-Space. And this is, like, the second part of a trilogy? WHAT THE SH*T, PEOPLE — WHY WASN’T I MADE AWARE OF THIS THING?

The Only Holiday Special I Need This Year: Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina: A Midwinter’s Tale (12/14)
A Winter Solstice séance-gone-wrong? Sign me up!

The “Yes, They’re Still Making Them” Shows: Fuller House season 4 (12/14) and The Ranch part 6 (12/7)
Cool, I guess?

Oh, and if you really wanna have a bummer of a holiday, Netflix is adding Avengers: Infinity War to the platform on Christmas Day. Because nothing makes me feel jolly like reliving the tragic dust-ening of all my heroes!
