Sh*t To Binge: Your January 2018 Guide to Netflix

There’s a shiny New Year waiting just around the corner, and we know just the thing that’ll help make all your resolutions a reality: sitting on the couch doing fuck-all. So to help get 2018 started right, we’ve put together a list of all of the stuff that’s coming to Netflix in January. Plan your bingeing schedule accordingly.

Here are few Netflix Originals that caught my eye:

1/5/2018: DEVILMAN crybaby: Season 1 — A dude turns into a devil or something? Apparently it’s based on a classic manga by Go Nagai. Whatever, I’ll watch it. Look at this trailer!

1/12/2018: The Polka King — Jack Black stars as Jan Lewan, a Polish-born band leader hoping to make it big in America… by drawing his fans into a Ponzi scheme. Based on a true Story! Jenny Slate, Jason Schwartzman, Jacki Weaver, and J.B. Smoove also star.

1/19/2018: Grace and Frankie: Season 4 — People love this show! I think. Anyway, it stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, and it’s popular enough to get a fourth season. YAY!

1/26/2018: A Futile and Stupid Gesture — David Wain directs this biographical look at the life and career of “National Lampoon” co-founder Doug Kenney, starring Will Forte, Domhnall Gleeson, Martin Mull, Joel McHale, and Matt Lucas. Frankly, I’m thrown off by Gleeson with dark hair. Isn’t he supposed to be a Weasley?

Last Chance: I also took a look at all the films/shows that will be leaving Netflix at the end of this month, and there was one title that jumped out at me. So if your holidays are shaping up to be a sad, grim affair, and you need something to cheer you up, be sure to catch Requiem For A Dream before it’s too late. Nothing makes me feel better about my life than watching that depressing parade of addiction and pain. Seriously — it puts things in perspective, don’t it? (But if you’ve never seen it before, please let me emphasize that it’s DEPRESSING AF. You’ve been warned.)

“But What About Hulu and Amazon?”
OK, fine. Amazon has the new anthology series Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams launching on January 12. The show has a pretty insane cast list, including Bryan Cranston, Benedict Wong, Anna Paquin, Steve Buscemi. I didn’t see any originals launching on Hulu, but I will point out one of my favorite movies ever is coming to the service on January 7th: Takashi Miike’s Yakuza Apocalypse. It’s about Yakuza vampires. Here’s the trailer (watch to the end to see the best character in the history of cinema: a fighter in a frog suit):
