J.K. Simmons Is NOT Playing J. Jonah Jameson in Hulu's 'Veronica Mars' Revival, Which Feels Like A Waste

Dear Hollywood,

I don’t ask for much. Mostly I want heartwarming cartoons, and good action scenes, and Vin Diesel bromancing Donnie Yen. But if you’re gonna cast J.K. Simmons opposite Kristin Bell in the upcoming Veronica Mars revival, and you’re not making him play her cantankerous, cigar-chomping boss, I mean… what are we even doing here? I know she’s a private detective, not a reporter. And I know J. Jonah Jameson is Marvel property. But Simmons played the part so well, and this seems like a perfect opportunity to slap another mustache on that man and let him yell at Veronica about where his freakin’ photos are.

But I digress. The “news” here is that J.K. Simmons has in fact been cast in Hulu’s upcoming Veronica Mars revival, which is still a very good thing. Because he is very good, and Veronica Mars is very good, and I’m not looking this gift horse in the mouth. He’ll be playing an ex-con named Clyde Prickett (solid name, that), who now works as a fixer for Neptune real estate developer Big Dick Casablancas (David Starzyk). He’s the brains of the operation, and he has a network of criminal contacts he can call upon to do his dirty work. Meanwhile, Veronica will be investigating a string of murdered spring break partiers, which has the community of Neptune in an uproar. How she’ll cross paths with Pricket remains to be seen, but for now, I’m going to imagine it’ll involve a lot of fast talking and irrational demands for incriminating photos of beloved public figures.

In addition to Bell, Veronica Mars veterans Enrico Colantoni, Jason Dohring, Percy Daggs III, Francis Capra, Ryan Hansen, Max Greenfield, and Daran Norris are all returning for the series revival. Other fresh faces in the cast include Patton Oswalt, who’ll be playing a true crime obsessive who also happens to be the “best pizza-delivery guy in Neptune.” Which seems super appropriate.

There’s no word yet on when the series will launch, but hopefully, we’ll hear something soon. C’mon, Hulu, don’t leave us hanging!
