Pope Francis is Apparently a Patti Smith Fan

Pope Francis, in his continued efforts to revamp public perception of the Catholic Church, has asked punk goddess Patti Smith to perform at the Vatican Christmas Concert. The two apparently met last April in the Vatican, and Pope Francis is only about 10 years older than Smith so it’s not a surprise that he’s a fan. He’s also asked Sister Cristina, the Catholic nun who went on the Italian version of The Voice and performed Madonna. Here’s her music video for “Like a Virgin.”

What I’m saying here is that we have a Pope with pretty good taste in music, as well as a a genuine desire to help the homeless in Rome and who has petitioned the G20 to include climate change, economic inequality, and halting military conflicts. Who wants to start a petition with me to get “Because the Night” on the official song list for this? I’d say “Gloria” but I’m trying to be marginally realistic.
