Why It Matters This Man Might Win Men's Health's Ultimate Guy Contest
The winner of Men’s Health’s “Ultimate Guy” contest gets to grace the magazine’s cover. This guy, Aydian Ethan Dowling, is currently ahead in the online vote. He’s a fitness pro, a handsome dude and an artist to boot. So that’s sounds pretty “Ultimate Guy” to us. But Dowling’s victory could be a history-making moment, because he’s also trans.
If Dowling gets named Men’s Health’s Ultimate Guy, he’ll be the first out trans man to ever appear on their cover. His win would also be a win for the transgender community, increasing visibility, representation, and thereby helping fight against the stigma and discrimination they so often face.
As I write this Dowling has more than three times as many votes as his closest competitor, so things are looking good for him. But if you want to help him secure the win before voting closes June 25th, do so here.
According to Men’s Health, the Ultimate Guy is “fit and fearless, a doer who gives back and leads by example.” Dowling fits the bill, not only being fit (look at him!) and fearless (being openly trans), but also this:
“Giving back is a large part of my life. I started the first YouTube Collaboration BeefHeads Fitness, a channel geared towards Transgender Individuals looking to get fit and healthy. Also, I run multiple groups, Instagram accounts, and other social media platforms encouraging mental and physical health reaching over 45K combined. On a more local platform I did start training other Transgender Males here in my new town of Eugene, OR. They have greatly progressed and I feel very proud to see their self confidence grow. I do nothing but support them and show technique, but drive is contagious!”
Good for you, Aydian. We’ll toast you by enjoying more of your pics. Thanks.
